Sticks and Stones

Do you remember as a child the saying …

“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me?”

We know now that that could not be further from the truth! Especially those of us who have done any kind of emotional energy healing, we know many of those wounds are from words, whether they were intentional or not, are still effecting us today.

Last night I was watching a movie with my son. It was called An American Girl: Chrissa Stands Strong on Family channel (a Canadian Children’s channel) about bullying. It was really well done, because it addressed the ripple effect of bullying and all aspects of it including the bully’s perspective.

After the movie I was reflecting on that old saying and how it could be adjusted for today and here’s what I came up with:

“Sticks and stones may break my bones,
And these will heal up fast,
But wounds from words cut long and deep
And the scars can last and last.”

Let’s make up new sayings for a new generation of non-tolerance.  Feel free to post your ”new sayings” in the comments section below:
