No News Is Good News For Your Mind And Body
A long time ago, I cancelled our subscriptions to the newspapers that were coming into our house every day. I did this as a way to improve my attitude and keep the negative opinions (the media) at bay. I noticed an immediate improvement in my attitude on a daily basis just from that one action.
Now, I know that there are a lot of people that fear they’ll be missing out if they cut the news out of their lives but unless you live under a rock, someone is bound to keep you informed as to what is going on and you can go ahead and investigate that story further if you feel you need to. There are lots of online sources for the news. But really, who wants to fill their mind with negative stories anyway? Most of what is in the news is negative and depressing. Before I cancelled our newspaper subscriptions, I had been traveling by train to work and back every day and reading the newspaper during the ride. Most of the stories were of doom and gloom and by the time I arrived at work, I was depressed and stressed. Soon after, I began reading personal development books or listening to relaxation music during my commute to work and felt worlds better as a result.
Truthfully though, since canceling my newspaper subscriptions, I was still plugged in to world events through my internet home page. Every day when I would fire up my computer and open my internet browser, the first thing I would see was my home page which happened to include a news feed of all latest headlines. Occasionally, if a headline caught my attention, I would click on it and read the story. And, from time to time, the headline would be something negative but curiosity would get the better of me and I would read the story anyway. I finally realized one day that this negativity in the form of world news events was still in my face even though I had long ago stopped reading newspapers. So, I searched online for a new home page that I could set up and customize to whatever I wanted to grab my attention on a daily basis. What I found was a customizable home page from iGoogle. Just go ahead and do a search on iGoogle and you’ll discover that you can customize it with whatever you like such as photos of puppies or kittens, a clock and calendar, the daily joke and more. It only takes a minute to set it up and save it and then you get an updated home page each time you open your browser.
Imagine for a moment if there were no newspapers. What if no one knew there was an economic crisis going on? People would just go on spending like usual and guess what? The economy would be as healthy as ever. It is people’s fears that are creating the state of the economy right now. What you focus on you attract and so, stop focusing on what the media is saying and relax. It’s enough to hear about your neighbor being laid off or seeing people get laid off at your company, why make yourself feel worse by reading more about it in the news? Do whatever you need to do to return to your calm and centered self and consider if maybe you should cancel your newspaper subscription or change your internet home page. This simple act will help you on your journey to bliss.

I agree, I have never really read the paper or watched the news. I really don’t need all of the negativity in my life. Family & friends keep me posted. But it’s funny how many people look at you like you are from Mars when you tell them you don’t watch the news or read the paper. Not that it bothers me, it’s a choice I make for myself. Thanks for the great article.
Good points. I hardly ever listen to or read the news except for little clips unless it’s something I specifically want to see/hear. And I don’t miss it!
I know – people seem to go into a panic when you tell them you don’t read the newspaper, I guess they worry they will be missing out. Personally, most of what is in the news I would rather miss out on anyway!
I agree totally… I rarely read the paper and yet I do not feel I am missing out on a lot of the important news. This global crunch is being exacerbated by all the people generating fearful thoughts. It would be nice if more people undestood the power of the energy we transmit and the way it affects our world.
